Call for proposals

MHP Romania and MHP Lab Cluj are announcing a first call for proposals for joint R&D projects with the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca. The proposal should focus on applications in the area of Mathematics and Computer Science. There is no restriction on the specific field, but proposals with a strong applicative potential are of more interest.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Small teams of at least one faculty staff member and at least one and at most three students
  • The proposal must be innovative, e.g. it has a special twist in its simplicity, technology or impact on society and have a clearly definable application potential
  • The project must be equally significant for all partners
  • The project must have an obvious advantage and added value

Submission and approval procedures:

  • Participants are asked to submit a project outline in English of at most three pages, highlighting the advantage and added value of their proposal as well as possible application areas.
  • Participants should also submit a complete list of personnel and affiliations of the team members, as well as their research experience and/or academic performance.
  • There will be a two phase selection procedure. In the first phase, five proposals will be selected and the teams will be invited to submit a detailed proposal, including objectives, time schedule, deliverables, expected outcomes, risk analysis and R&D procedures. In the second phase, the quality of each submission will be evaluated by a board of experts from industry and academia. Every team will be invited to defend its proposal during an interview with the board of experts.

Funding and duration:

  • 6 month, starting with October 1, 2018 until March 31, 2019.
  • Projects with high potential can be selected for a further prolonging of at most 6 month.
  • Academic staff members will be granted with EUR 600/month.
  • Students will receive a research stipend of EUR 400/month.

  • Eventual scientific publications must affiliate, besides the Babeș-Bolyai University also MHP Lab Cluj
  • Deliverables:
    • Kick off and project start
    • Scientific research of state of the art methods, procedures and knowledge
    • Scientific R&D activities: implementation, validation, comparison, outcomes, analysis, etc.
    • Technical report

Calendar:

  • Online proposal submission from June 15 to June 30, 2018 at csacarea@math.ubbcluj.ro
  • First evaluation phase: July 1 – July 8, 2018. At most five proposals will be selected for the second phase.
  • Detailed submission phase: July 9 – July 16, 2018. Invited proposals are asked to submit a detailed project description.
  • Second evaluation phase: July 17-July 23, 2018, including selection and interviews.
  • Project start: October 1, 2018.
  • Project end: March 31, 2019.
