The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is actively involved in the Cluj Innovation Days event

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is actively involved in the Cluj Innovation Days event in the sessions of May 26, 2023:

  • Laura Diana Cernău, PhD student, will talk about Innovation within UBB, about how we build an academic ecosystem of innovation  and entrepreneurship within the Innovation Made in Cluj panel.
  • Andrei-Robert Alexandrescu and Alexandru Manole, students from the “Applied Computational Intelligence” master’s program, will give a presentation on Generative AI: Democratization of Romanian Education in the panel Generative AI: What does it mean and what does it change for Romania? . The potential, but also the threats, of generative models based on Artificial Intelligence in the Romanian educational system will be discussed.

In addition to the research work she carries out during her PhD, Laura Cernău is an active member in the innovation and entrepreneurship activities of the faculty. These include participation in the faculty’s incubator, CS InnoHub , and the role of scout in the InnoChange project. Laura is also part of the IT industry ecosystem in Cluj-Napoca, being a software engineer at PitechPlus.

Andrei-Robert Alexandrescu is a master’s student in the first year, having experience in research projects in Artificial Intelligence and several companies (RebelDot, Amazon), and in the summer he will participate in an internship at Google. Andrei was recently nominated for the Excellentia awards and represented the faculty at the “Games of Science” competition, where he won first place in the regional stage and a special prize in the national final.

Alexandru Manole is a second-year master’s student, actively involved in research projects developed in collaboration with faculty partners (such as BOSCH or NATO-HUMMINT) for automatic image analysis. In addition to his research activity within the faculty, Alexandru implements and develops Artificial Intelligence techniques as a software engineer at the Transart company from Cluj.
