Administrative procedure for the registration of applicants (Admission to the Master’s Degree Programs 2026)

Common procedures for all areas

  • Graduates of postgraduate programs participate in the competition with a grade calculated as follows:
    • 75% overall average of passing the years of study from the postgraduate program
    • 25% grade from the professional skills certification exam from the same program.
  • Candidates whose options contain specializations in English or German must provide a language certificate in the relevant language(s) in their application. The list of certificates approved by UBB can be found in Annex 1 of https://www.cs.ubbcluj.ro/wp-content/uploads/Regulament-admitere-2026-UBB.pdf
    • If a candidate does not have a language proficiency certificate for certain options (from the language in which the program is held), these will be automatically deleted from the list of options.
    • For the Advanced Information Systems specialization, two language proficiency certificates are required, one in German and one in English.

For specializations in the field of Mathematics:

  • For the master’s specializations in the field of Mathematics, candidates who have graduated from one of the following fields are accepted without a specialized test:
    • a specialization in the field of Mathematics
    • a specialization in the field of Computer Science
    • a specialization in the field of Physics
    • a specialization in the field of Computers and Information Technology
    • one of the following specializations in the field of Economics:
      • Cyber Economics
      • Statistics and Economic Forecasting
      • Economic Informatics
    • for the programs Modern Methods in Teaching Mathematics programme: candidates who are specialized teachers and graduates of postgraduate professional conversion programs for Mathematics are also accepted.
  • A candidate who has not graduated from one of the above-mentioned specializations will take a specialized test on the subject of Mathematics from the BSc finalization exam topic.
  • The minimum grade for passing the specialty test is 6.00.
  • The specialized test is held in the same language as the first programme on the candidates’ option list.

For specializations in the field of Computer Science:

  • For the master’s specializations in the field of Computer Science, candidates who have graduated from one of the following fields are accepted without a specialized test:
    • a specialization in the field of Computer Science
    • the Mathematics Computer Science specialization from the field of Mathematics
    • a specialization in the field of Computers and Information Technology
    • one of the following specializations in the field of Economics:
      • Cyber Economics
      • Economic Informatics
    • Graduates of the postgraduate training and professional training programs organized by our faculty are also accepted.
  • A candidate who has not graduated within one of the above-mentioned specializations will take a specialized test on:
  • The minimum grade for passing the specialty test is 6.00.
  • The specialized test is held in the same language as the first programme on the candidates’ option list.
  • For the Advanced Information Systems specialization, two certificates of language proficiency are required, one in German and one in English.
  • In the Cybersecurity (English) and Cloud, Network Infrastructure, and High Performance Computing (English) specializations:
    • The conditions for the language proficiency certificate are the same as for the other specializations.
    • The number of EIT Digital candidates is determined following the selection process at the EIT Digital level. The processing of the files of these candidates is done by the admission committee for master’s studies of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Center for International Cooperation of Babeș-Bolyai University, and the Master School Office of EIT Digital.
    • For these specializations, the number of taxed spots will be reduced depending on the number of EIT Digital candidates.
    • Candidates who come through EIT Digital are exempt from the application fee and processing fee at UBB, as they pay similar fees at EIT Digital.
    • For EIT Digital candidates, the letter of motivation in the EIT Digital selection file is equivalent to the professional and scientific career development plan.
    • Candidates who come through EIT Digital are accepted without a specialized test.
    • The equivalence of studies carried out outside Romania for EIT Digital candidates will be done by the Center for International Cooperation of the UBB. The UBB General Secretariat will equate the grades these candidates earned abroad.

For specializations in the field of Educational Sciences

  • For the master’s specializations in the field of Educational Sciences, candidates who have graduated from one of the following fields are accepted:
    • for the Master’s in Mathematics Education:
      • a specialization in the field of Mathematics
      • candidates who are specialized teachers or graduates of a postgraduate professional conversion program for Mathematics are also accepted.
    • for Master’s in Computer Science Education:
      • a specialization in the field of Computer Science
      • the Mathematics and Computer Science specialization (4 years)
      • the Economic Informatics specialization (4 years)
      • candidates who are specialized teachers or graduates of a postgraduate professional conversion programs for Computer Science are also accepted.
  • For master’s specializations in the field of Educational Sciences, there is NO specialty test that can be taken for graduates from other fields or specializations.
