Abstract:

Success of research is a combination of discovery, elucidation, experimental design, techniques, serendipity, motivation and hard work, along with the abilities to absorb, comprehend, write, present and persuade. Societies have become more and more globalized including the use of the scientific method across wide fields of study. How can one more effectively communicate one’s ideas and thoughts in the research process will be a focus of this open discussion aimed at sharing experiences and situations.

Short Biography

Patricia McGahan, global challenger and educator at Tokyo University of Agricultural and Technology (TUAT), Japan, is involved with teaching academic content as well as research writing and presenting in Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Systems Engineering, Mechanical Systems Engineering, Applied Physics and Information Sciences. She is also working at Tokyo Institute of Technology with a special grant program teaching a global awareness program. Patricia has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from California State University, Chico, USA. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she recruited with Sony and went to live and work in Tokyo. During that time she developed an interest in videography and hence produced internationally distributed documentary videos. Through these experiences she honed skills in technical writing. In addition, she has done master’s studies in education through Temple University. For the past ten years she has been conducting writing workshop sessions in the Graduate School of Engineering at TUAT with master’s and doctorate students, as well as post- docs, resulting in a wide variety of publications. Patricia has a number of interests including photography and travel.
