3rd Workshop on Applied Deep Learning (WeADL 2023)

The 3rd Workshop on Applied Deep Learning (WeADL 2023) will take place on Friday, June 9th and will focus on presenting some of the recent research results in the usage of artificial intelligence for short-term forecasting (nowcasting) of extreme weather events. Speakers from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the Romanian National Weather Administration as well as researchers from the Babeș-Bolyai University will provide an introduction to the equipment, methodology, data formats and algorithms used in modern weather forecasting.

The workshop takes place within the framework of the WeaMyL research project (RO-NO-2019-0133). The WeaMyL project aims to enhance the accuracy, performance, and reliability of national nowcasting warning systems using machine learning techniques applied on radar, satellite, and weather station observations. The focus is on improving the precision in predicting the occurrence and the areas affected by severe meteorological phenomena, as well as attaining lower decision times when compared to current times based on human operator expertise. The project’s main goal is to automate the nowcasting warning systems by creating a machine learning driven platform for early and accurate forecast of severe phenomena. Thus, it is aimed to be the backbone of a new framework for imminent severe weather detection adapted to current technological possibilities.
